The artist Funsho is back with a brand new single entitled LEGENDS 4 LIFE. For those of you who have never heard of Funsho, you may remember him from the 2018 season of THE VOICE a popular music showcase program that airs on the NBC network. In spite of Funsho’s talent and popularity among the viewers of the show, he was knocked out of the contest. However, it didn’t take Funsho long to bounce back. It’s always nice to see a young artist persevere and overcome adversity. As for those of you who follow the blog you may recall our 2016 article with Funsho entitled FUNSHO. Now Funsho is back to further dazzle us with his talents and skills.
Funsho has always made music with lots of heart and soul and that hasn't changed. He never ceases to amaze us with his music and his level of talent. This new single is a fun track, yet it still has lots of sex appeal and soulfulness. This may be Funsho's break out moment in the music industry and I believe he is on a path to further showcase the talent that was passed over by fans of THE VOICE. The new music video is equally impressive and also fun to watch. The director Alex Acosta and his team did an excellent job with the production and they should be proud of their work.
As the lyrics in the song suggest Funsho is feeling himself and he should be very proud of what he has accomplished in the last year or so. The music and lyrical selections are well thought out for this track. The performance by Funsho is excellent both on the track and in the music video. I highly recommend that you go watch Funsho's LEGENDS 4 LIFE. This artist and his music has never disappointed me and I am sure you will love Funsho's music as much as I do. To get more info on Funsho and his music check him out on the web and follow him across all social media platforms. After nearly 500 years of slavery and oppression of the
so-called African and let us not forget the Aboriginal black and brown people
of the land we now know as America. Only one question comes to mind. Who holds
the blame for the condition we find ourselves in today? Answering that question
may prove to be one of the hardest things for us to do. The question is a bit
more complicated to answer than it may seem. To answer this question we may end
up hurting a lot of feelings in the process. People on all sides of the
argument will most undoubtedly have hard feelings no matter how you slice the
pie.
You may recall a
while back a lot of folks were up in arms over statements made by the
world-renowned rap artist designer and media icon Kanye West. Back in May of
this year, West made the statement "400 years of slavery; sounds like a
choice to me". At that moment I didn't fully understand and like most
people I was upset and appalled that a black man would say such a thing. After
listening to Mr. West and removing my own ego I could clearly see that Kanye
was trying to make a greater point about how we are in control of our lives no
matter how bleak the outcome may seem. I believe he was trying to accept the
fact that we all have a part to play in what happens to us in life.
Kanye's words
opened up my thinking and that's not to say I totally agree with all he said
but I did understand he was trying to show us that we have a stake in this
game. We have a stake now and we had one back then. He was saying that yes,
evil men did start slavery and that was their choice and we had equal choices
even though it may not have seemed we didn't. We have a duty in this life to be
responsible for everything that happens to us good or bad. For the things that
are the fault of others as well as the tragedies, we bring on ourselves. To
that degree, I was willing to hear my brother out and respect his opinion on
the matter.
After listening to
West a little more I remembered one of our great elders Huey Newton saying
"Many of us are fearful of what's happening in America because we have
overestimated the ability of white supremacy and greatly underestimated our own
abilities". With this understanding
I move forward not giving an excuse to the evil and cruel institution of slavery
or the oppressive system that followed slavery but to the higher understanding
that I have power. My world can be shaped by my own thinking and we mustn't
allow anyone to make me think otherwise. I also remember my own granddad John
Robert tell me that " No one can hurt you more than you hurt your own self
and the only thing holding you back is you". Granddad was right because
the only times I could recall ever really been hurt badly was when I lived in
my own ignorance and wallowed in my own self-petty.
I would be leading
you astray if I ended my store there because we all know people can sometimes
do horrific things to other people and because of that we are sometimes at the
mercy of the universe. Just as we have choices others have choices and we can't
choose for them what is right or wrong. What we can do is defend ourselves
against unwanted energies that disrupt our happiness and freedom. Once I read
that a good man's job is to show the bad man the way back to the path and to
also stop him from hurting others by showing him he is really hurting himself.
You see, even in the actions of others we have some control and responsibility.
The saying "Am I my brother's keeper "comes to mind and the answer is
always yes, just as he is mine. We must take full responsibility for our lives
if this world is going to change it will be totally up to us.
I wrote this
because I wanted to say something to shake the souls of men and to break us
free from the mental bondage we are currently living under. Also wanted to stop
us from engaging in the silly traditions of blaming others for what happens to
us. We are the masters of our own fate and captains of our destinies. Never shall
we bend the knee to man in fear or in hopelessness that we are without choices
and power to shape our own path. In the past, the chains were present and very
real the weight of them seemed unbearable yet just as it is today the chains
are an illusion. These chains can and
will be broken and we have to do is think anew. Dream a new dream of liberty
freedom and justice then do me a favor and wake up and get to work.

Last November we interviewed a young artist from Kansas City known as "The Royal Chief". This year we are reviewing his latest release entitled "Homecoming". As always the Chief has given us a work that all Hip Hoppers can be proud of considering most MC's in the game today don't spend much time writing lyrics. This project is jumping off the top and there is no doubt that The Royal Chief is a true talent in the music industry.
When we last spoke with the Chief he was living in the ATL trying to advance his music career but now the Chief has returned to his hometown Kansas City. Listening to Chief I know he could have made it anywhere but like the protocol son he has returned to the land of his birth; back to the city and the people he love. There is an old African proverb that says: If a man is seeking prosperity he must return to the land of his birth to rebuild his mind, body, and spirit. I believe Chief has made the right choice and his music shows it. I think he has found his gold mine because this project is nice from start to finish.
The EP has 7 tracks in all and every one of them is inspiring musically and lyrically. The Royal Chief is not the kind of MC that cuts corners and you can tell he has given his all on every track. The mood of the project is mellow but it has that club bounce so no worries on that front. It's music with a message but not so preachy that it turns off the listener. This project has tracks that you can bump in the club and tracks for that solo ride through town. Chief has given us something I feel will very special and hope you will support it.
The first track is "Kingdom Come" and it's the real deal I can't lie this track is dope for real. This track is Chief claiming the crown and serving notice that MC's better get on their job if they hope to compete with the Chief. You can hear the hunger in his voice and trust me this ain't no mumble rap right here. Speaking of trust the second track is called "Trust & Believe" and it is lit no games this is the shit. This track is fire and there's no way to explain it you must listen for yourself, it's just something you have to hear. The next track is some futuristic pimp game on a dope track you can't help but like the song. The track is called "See Me Now" and yes, it's some fly ass shit for sure.
This is the way Hip Hop should sound in this era and I'm glad Chief didn't give up his music because he has given us a jewel. Next up is the track "Can't Explain" and this track is super sexy the music is bold and completely soulful. Chief has put down some smooth lyrics this is next level pimping. After that Chief reflects on the games the music industry plays and how it feels to be an artist trying to find your way through the madness. The track is titled "Elevator Music" and it's a self-motivated pep talk on things that we all go through with our own self-doubts and fears. The next song is called "My Brother's Keeper" and it is a heartfelt message about lost and human suffering. I think many of us who have lost loved ones to violence can relate to the words in this song. For me, this song was my favorite track and I wish more artists would put their emotions on display in their music.
Only one song left to review but because of the title I know we will hear more from The Royal Chief in the future. The final track is called "No Days Off" and just like everything Chief does this track is dope. This track is Chief putting his stamp on his work and letting it be known that he is here to stay. The entire EP is remarkable and my only wish was that he had done more songs. I really enjoyed reviewing this work it was refreshing to hear such mastery and skill in Hip Hop again.
Overall I am more than impressed with this work just as I have been with his talent ever since I first heard The Royal Chief. Friends, please take some time to treat yourselves to some of the best Hip Hop music on the underground scene. In the next few years, I can see this artist becoming a household name. He has the talent and the skills and all he needs now is a listen from the people. Please share the music. Do your part to revive Hip Hop and real Mc'in; support "Homecoming" and The Royal Chief.
First let me say pussy and dick. I bet you're listening now right? Now that I have lowered myself to speak to you the least could do is rise up to hear me. Millions of liberals made excuses when they saw police shoot my people in the back. They turned a blind eye when the cops choked my brother to death. They cared not when my people where the victims of brutality.
Now because their life styles may be affected or effected they want me and my people to join their cause. They said we should have voted and we are the reason Trump won. We shouldn't even care to be truthful. When ever white people have a problem with white people they want the help of black people. Examples: American Revolution, Civil War, WWI, WWII, The Feminist Movement and many more.
When the system murders innocent black men women and children the liberal are for the most part silent. So now it's my people turn to watch you deal with the system alone. I ask all my people to take a step back and return to your own homes and communities to begin the healing process for our people. These same liberals will turn their backs on us when have what they want from the system.
Examples of their back turning: Slavery. Black laws, Jim Crow laws, Lynchings after WWI & WWII, Destruction of the Black Family after the feminist movement and so much more. I can't begin to list every time the liberals turned on us.This is there fight. Let us return now to the way of our ancestors before we came in contact with them. Let us now turn back to our universal God head and ask him/ her to deliver us from this hell... Let us start the work that will free the next generation from bondage.
The weeks have passed quickly and we are already into the
second month of the year. The Unique Artist series has been very successful in
the first year and we want to keep up that spirit of excellence with our next artist
for the month February. This month we bring to you the story of a young
singer-songwriter from our nation's capital Washington D.C… Born to the world as
DaMar A. Jackson this artist goes by the stage name DaMar J… In fairness to our
readers I must disclose the fact that I am related to this young man but that
is not the reason I write about him. This young man has a great deal of talent
and it would be a shame not to showcase him simply because he is my relative.
DaMar J. has gifts both as a singer and as a songwriter. His choice of topic
range from part jams to deep emotional soul ballets. He has come a long way
in the time I have watched him grow and I believe he has earned the right to be
in the blog series for Unique Artist.
As you can imagine I had no problem securing an interview
with DaMar because as I say he is family. The only problem was finding the
right time to get together and talk about his music career. Long story short,
we made it happen and you are in for a treat especially if you like R&B music
that is new and exciting. DaMar's music lyrically is a throwback to a time when
artist worked on the words as much as they did the sound. In his work, he has
managed to capture that old school vibe we all love but at the same time, he
gives us something fresh and witty by way of word selection vocal delivery and his choice of musical sound that accompanies his brilliant writing abilities. So we
began this interview by allowing DaMar to tell us some things about himself
and how he came to love music and entertaining so much.
DaMar says first and foremost music and singing are like
magic for him and he just loves being able to touch people through song. He
says that in his music he has always wanted to be a voice for the voiceless and
although he writes the occasional party song or dance cut, his real goal in
music is to speak for those who are unable to speak for themselves. When you
first listen to DaMar's music the fact that really cares about what he is
singing is evident from the first note. DaMar J. says he started singing
as a young child at around age 6 or 7. He says he was inspired to sing by the
movie The Bodyguard starring the late great singer Whitney Huston and the
award-winning film star Kevin Costner. DaMar said Huston's singing made a great
impression on him and he has been singing ever since. As a child, DaMar said
the choir at his grandma's church inspired him to sing as well.
DaMar said that he really didn't get serious about singing
or making music until he was about 16 years of age. He says before that it was
just fun times singing for family and friends. DaMar says he was bitten by the
bug to perform back in high school after he won first place in a high school
talent competition. He says after that he has wanted nothing more than to
perform his music in front of as many people as he could. DaMar has performed
before local crowds on the D.C. music scene for a number of years taking part
in big and small showcases in the DMV area. DaMar also has 4 complete projects
under his belt and currently is working on a 5th project to be named later this
year. His first project was entitled FADE. He says it was a series of songs
written and produced by him and the title track Fade was voted to be on the
coast to coast mixtape back in 2012. After that, he had another work called
"DaMar J's Room" a group of songs he did on some popular tracks by
the artist Drake. Last year DaMar did a mixtape duo with another outstanding
DMV talent, singer Dimi Dashon. The mixtape is called "The LoveChronicles".
This year on January 1st, 2017 DaMar J. released his 4th
project entitled PATIENCE, and like "Fade", "Patience" was
written and produced by DaMar J. and it is a great piece of work when you
consider DaMar is an unsigned artist. "Patience" was done one on a
shoestring budget but you wouldn't think it after listening to the quality of
the work put forth by DaMar. The team at the blog fell in love with almost
every song on the track 8 EP and we had a hard time picking a feature track for
the story but we all agreed that "When You Find Love" the last track on the EP
was the best song on the project. It has everything a love ballet should have
and you can't help but love it. The song is about finding love and how that
moment can transform you as a human being. In the song, DaMar sings about
finding true love and how beautiful it is when you find it for sure. The music
and the lyrics are as beautiful as the thought of true love and DaMar's singing
is wonderful on this piece. I do believe that his fan base will grow greatly
after people get a chance to experience this song.
We have some other favorites on the project and I list them
here for you to check out as well. The team also enjoyed the track "How 2 Act" the 1st song on the EP. This track has plenty of pop and attitude and
DaMar's delivery is perfection. The song talks about people needing to
understand that there is a time and place for everything and if you want to be
successful you better learn how to act in those times. We also like "Ain'tCha Bestie" and song about knowing who your friends are in life and being
able to understand the difference between real friends and fake ones. The track
has great bounce and a playfulness to it that makes it fun to listen to over
and over again. Another favorite from the EP was "Waiting", a song
about waiting around for things to happen and being fed up with the whole
process of waiting. I guess if the EP had a title cut then Waiting would be
that song. The music is unbelievable and the arrangement is a little on the
spacey side but I love it. As I said the team enjoyed the whole project from
start to finish and we are sure you will love Patience as well.
I asked DaMar what we could expect in the near future from
him and his music and he said this year he is working on a number of new
projects for himself and other artists. He says he will also be getting out and
gigging more this year because he knows how important it is for his fans to be
up close and personal with him. DaMar says going forward he is going to be pushing
harder than ever to make his name a household name, not just for him but for
all the people who have invested their time money and hopes in his dream. He
says he feels he owes it to his supporters to make good on the dream. DaMar
says it's time to stop dreaming about it and time to bring the vision forth to
its full manifestation. I have been watching this young man for a long time and
I believe now he gets it and we will be hearing much more from this delightful
artist in the future but for now please go out and support his works and spread
the word that a star is among us. This has been another Unique Artist moment
from your friends at Days of Joy Entertainment and we want to encourage you to
follow the links below to find out more about the music and career of DaMar
J… Until next month enjoy the music and share it with friends and family
because music is the other soul food.
