The artist Funsho is back with a brand new single entitled LEGENDS 4 LIFE. For those of you who have never heard of Funsho, you may remember him from the 2018 season of THE VOICE a popular music showcase program that airs on the NBC network. In spite of Funsho’s talent and popularity among the viewers of the show, he was knocked out of the contest. However, it didn’t take Funsho long to bounce back. It’s always nice to see a young artist persevere and overcome adversity. As for those of you who follow the blog you may recall our 2016 article with Funsho entitled FUNSHO. Now Funsho is back to further dazzle us with his talents and skills.
Funsho has always made music with lots of heart and soul and that hasn't changed. He never ceases to amaze us with his music and his level of talent. This new single is a fun track, yet it still has lots of sex appeal and soulfulness. This may be Funsho's break out moment in the music industry and I believe he is on a path to further showcase the talent that was passed over by fans of THE VOICE. The new music video is equally impressive and also fun to watch. The director Alex Acosta and his team did an excellent job with the production and they should be proud of their work.
As the lyrics in the song suggest Funsho is feeling himself and he should be very proud of what he has accomplished in the last year or so. The music and lyrical selections are well thought out for this track. The performance by Funsho is excellent both on the track and in the music video. I highly recommend that you go watch Funsho's LEGENDS 4 LIFE. This artist and his music has never disappointed me and I am sure you will love Funsho's music as much as I do. To get more info on Funsho and his music check him out on the web and follow him across all social media platforms. It is always my pleasure to present new work by Funsho because he deserves recognition. So, friends please support this artist he is going to be something wonderful to behold in the coming years.

Last November we interviewed a young artist from Kansas City known as "The Royal Chief". This year we are reviewing his latest release entitled "Homecoming". As always the Chief has given us a work that all Hip Hoppers can be proud of considering most MC's in the game today don't spend much time writing lyrics. This project is jumping off the top and there is no doubt that The Royal Chief is a true talent in the music industry.
When we last spoke with the Chief he was living in the ATL trying to advance his music career but now the Chief has returned to his hometown Kansas City. Listening to Chief I know he could have made it anywhere but like the protocol son he has returned to the land of his birth; back to the city and the people he love. There is an old African proverb that says: If a man is seeking prosperity he must return to the land of his birth to rebuild his mind, body, and spirit. I believe Chief has made the right choice and his music shows it. I think he has found his gold mine because this project is nice from start to finish.
The EP has 7 tracks in all and every one of them is inspiring musically and lyrically. The Royal Chief is not the kind of MC that cuts corners and you can tell he has given his all on every track. The mood of the project is mellow but it has that club bounce so no worries on that front. It's music with a message but not so preachy that it turns off the listener. This project has tracks that you can bump in the club and tracks for that solo ride through town. Chief has given us something I feel will very special and hope you will support it.
The first track is "Kingdom Come" and it's the real deal I can't lie this track is dope for real. This track is Chief claiming the crown and serving notice that MC's better get on their job if they hope to compete with the Chief. You can hear the hunger in his voice and trust me this ain't no mumble rap right here. Speaking of trust the second track is called "Trust & Believe" and it is lit no games this is the shit. This track is fire and there's no way to explain it you must listen for yourself, it's just something you have to hear. The next track is some futuristic pimp game on a dope track you can't help but like the song. The track is called "See Me Now" and yes, it's some fly ass shit for sure.
This is the way Hip Hop should sound in this era and I'm glad Chief didn't give up his music because he has given us a jewel. Next up is the track "Can't Explain" and this track is super sexy the music is bold and completely soulful. Chief has put down some smooth lyrics this is next level pimping. After that Chief reflects on the games the music industry plays and how it feels to be an artist trying to find your way through the madness. The track is titled "Elevator Music" and it's a self-motivated pep talk on things that we all go through with our own self-doubts and fears. The next song is called "My Brother's Keeper" and it is a heartfelt message about lost and human suffering. I think many of us who have lost loved ones to violence can relate to the words in this song. For me, this song was my favorite track and I wish more artists would put their emotions on display in their music.
Only one song left to review but because of the title I know we will hear more from The Royal Chief in the future. The final track is called "No Days Off" and just like everything Chief does this track is dope. This track is Chief putting his stamp on his work and letting it be known that he is here to stay. The entire EP is remarkable and my only wish was that he had done more songs. I really enjoyed reviewing this work it was refreshing to hear such mastery and skill in Hip Hop again.
Overall I am more than impressed with this work just as I have been with his talent ever since I first heard The Royal Chief. Friends, please take some time to treat yourselves to some of the best Hip Hop music on the underground scene. In the next few years, I can see this artist becoming a household name. He has the talent and the skills and all he needs now is a listen from the people. Please share the music. Do your part to revive Hip Hop and real Mc'in; support "Homecoming" and The Royal Chief.
The weeks have passed quickly and we are already into the
second month of the year. The Unique Artist series has been very successful in
the first year and we want to keep up that spirit of excellence with our next artist
for the month February. This month we bring to you the story of a young
singer-songwriter from our nation's capital Washington D.C… Born to the world as
DaMar A. Jackson this artist goes by the stage name DaMar J… In fairness to our
readers I must disclose the fact that I am related to this young man but that
is not the reason I write about him. This young man has a great deal of talent
and it would be a shame not to showcase him simply because he is my relative.
DaMar J. has gifts both as a singer and as a songwriter. His choice of topic
range from part jams to deep emotional soul ballets. He has come a long way
in the time I have watched him grow and I believe he has earned the right to be
in the blog series for Unique Artist.
As you can imagine I had no problem securing an interview
with DaMar because as I say he is family. The only problem was finding the
right time to get together and talk about his music career. Long story short,
we made it happen and you are in for a treat especially if you like R&B music
that is new and exciting. DaMar's music lyrically is a throwback to a time when
artist worked on the words as much as they did the sound. In his work, he has
managed to capture that old school vibe we all love but at the same time, he
gives us something fresh and witty by way of word selection vocal delivery and his choice of musical sound that accompanies his brilliant writing abilities. So we
began this interview by allowing DaMar to tell us some things about himself
and how he came to love music and entertaining so much.
DaMar says first and foremost music and singing are like
magic for him and he just loves being able to touch people through song. He
says that in his music he has always wanted to be a voice for the voiceless and
although he writes the occasional party song or dance cut, his real goal in
music is to speak for those who are unable to speak for themselves. When you
first listen to DaMar's music the fact that really cares about what he is
singing is evident from the first note. DaMar J. says he started singing
as a young child at around age 6 or 7. He says he was inspired to sing by the
movie The Bodyguard starring the late great singer Whitney Huston and the
award-winning film star Kevin Costner. DaMar said Huston's singing made a great
impression on him and he has been singing ever since. As a child, DaMar said
the choir at his grandma's church inspired him to sing as well.
DaMar said that he really didn't get serious about singing
or making music until he was about 16 years of age. He says before that it was
just fun times singing for family and friends. DaMar says he was bitten by the
bug to perform back in high school after he won first place in a high school
talent competition. He says after that he has wanted nothing more than to
perform his music in front of as many people as he could. DaMar has performed
before local crowds on the D.C. music scene for a number of years taking part
in big and small showcases in the DMV area. DaMar also has 4 complete projects
under his belt and currently is working on a 5th project to be named later this
year. His first project was entitled FADE. He says it was a series of songs
written and produced by him and the title track Fade was voted to be on the
coast to coast mixtape back in 2012. After that, he had another work called
"DaMar J's Room" a group of songs he did on some popular tracks by
the artist Drake. Last year DaMar did a mixtape duo with another outstanding
DMV talent, singer Dimi Dashon. The mixtape is called "The LoveChronicles".
This year on January 1st, 2017 DaMar J. released his 4th
project entitled PATIENCE, and like "Fade", "Patience" was
written and produced by DaMar J. and it is a great piece of work when you
consider DaMar is an unsigned artist. "Patience" was done one on a
shoestring budget but you wouldn't think it after listening to the quality of
the work put forth by DaMar. The team at the blog fell in love with almost
every song on the track 8 EP and we had a hard time picking a feature track for
the story but we all agreed that "When You Find Love" the last track on the EP
was the best song on the project. It has everything a love ballet should have
and you can't help but love it. The song is about finding love and how that
moment can transform you as a human being. In the song, DaMar sings about
finding true love and how beautiful it is when you find it for sure. The music
and the lyrics are as beautiful as the thought of true love and DaMar's singing
is wonderful on this piece. I do believe that his fan base will grow greatly
after people get a chance to experience this song.
We have some other favorites on the project and I list them
here for you to check out as well. The team also enjoyed the track "How 2 Act" the 1st song on the EP. This track has plenty of pop and attitude and
DaMar's delivery is perfection. The song talks about people needing to
understand that there is a time and place for everything and if you want to be
successful you better learn how to act in those times. We also like "Ain'tCha Bestie" and song about knowing who your friends are in life and being
able to understand the difference between real friends and fake ones. The track
has great bounce and a playfulness to it that makes it fun to listen to over
and over again. Another favorite from the EP was "Waiting", a song
about waiting around for things to happen and being fed up with the whole
process of waiting. I guess if the EP had a title cut then Waiting would be
that song. The music is unbelievable and the arrangement is a little on the
spacey side but I love it. As I said the team enjoyed the whole project from
start to finish and we are sure you will love Patience as well.
I asked DaMar what we could expect in the near future from
him and his music and he said this year he is working on a number of new
projects for himself and other artists. He says he will also be getting out and
gigging more this year because he knows how important it is for his fans to be
up close and personal with him. DaMar says going forward he is going to be pushing
harder than ever to make his name a household name, not just for him but for
all the people who have invested their time money and hopes in his dream. He
says he feels he owes it to his supporters to make good on the dream. DaMar
says it's time to stop dreaming about it and time to bring the vision forth to
its full manifestation. I have been watching this young man for a long time and
I believe now he gets it and we will be hearing much more from this delightful
artist in the future but for now please go out and support his works and spread
the word that a star is among us. This has been another Unique Artist moment
from your friends at Days of Joy Entertainment and we want to encourage you to
follow the links below to find out more about the music and career of DaMar
J… Until next month enjoy the music and share it with friends and family
because music is the other soul food.
Greetings good friend and welcome to 2017! By the grace of God, we made it through another year. 2016 was full of ups and down and some unexpected turnabouts. You alt to know by now that America has elected a new president whose name I will not mention because I am sure he will get plenty of press coverage in the mainstream media and on the Politics page of our blog. As we enter into 2017 we wanted to take the Music page of the blog and our "Unique Artist" series back to the street. As you may know "Hip Hop" music started in the streets of NYC over 50 plus years ago and the origins of the music began in the streets and it was the hood version of the news. Well, this month we have an artist that is the modern day version of classic MC's like Spoony G and the rapper Too Short.
Our subject comes to us out of the mean streets of our nation's capital Washington D.C... This artist is a through back to a forgotten era in rap and hip hop music where street knowledge was the term we used to describe rappers like this young man. His flow is exceptional and as I say he is teaching the lessons of the streets without glorifying them and in doing so he is revitalizing a lost art form in hip hop music. All too often young rappers talk street but they aren't teaching a damn thing. Not is guy, he is repping street knowledge to the fullest. The artist goes by the name Diesel and you will clearly get the reason why after listen to his high-octane style of rap which will leave you feeling like you've been run over by a Mack truck. This is the rise of a legend in hip-hop and you don't want to miss this monumental moment in hip hop history.
Diesel was born Hershel Walker and he grew up in a notorious housing project in Washington D.C. commonly known as The University or as it was known by its residents "58 U". The East Capital Dwelling housing complex was one of the worst in N.E. Washington D.C. and it was there that Diesel learned the hard facts of life. You may be wondering why the people called the development a university. Diesel says that the old hustlers came up with the name and a while it just stuck. If you think about it; it makes perfect sense because when you want to learn you go to school and if you want a higher level of understanding you to a university to advance your knowledge. Diesel says living in the projects he learn a lot of lessons about life you couldn't learn anywhere else.
He says, some of the lessons were bad but for the most part he learned a lot about human behavior living in the hood. He also says his up bring is one of the leading influences in his music. Diesel said people might not think it but the ghetto offers you a lot when it comes to building your character. You learn about everything there is to know about life; you get to see people at their lowest points as well people in the worst places overcoming hell to make a good life. Diesel said he wouldn't change one thing about his upbringing or the facts of his earlier life in the projects. Diesel says "58 U' made me who I am today and I will never turn my back on that. So many good people and so many life lessons for a young man like me Diesel said.
Diesel has a new EP out entitled "Keisha House" and it is the main reason we wanted to talk to Diesel. We asked what is the meaning behind the title "Keisha House" and he said: The meaning is more like a novel or major motion picture. It's just my way of talking about some of the shit that happened over the years. It is a metaphor for the world and what happens when human beings get caught up. Basically, it's my testimonial to life in the ghetto from the perspective of someone in a trap house environment. The EP is meant to serve as a notice to those who judge us city kids. They don't know what hell we have been through and I feel they got no right to judge us unless they spend some time in our shoes. Diesel says I just want to bring my music to the public and have them understand what it's like being young and black in America. This young man has a brilliant mind and his music is just as insightful as he is. Yes, his music is raw and gritty but it has lots of truth.
The EP is "Keisha House", the artist is Diesel and I strongly suggest you try it out. The beat production is just as unique as the rapper and I know the true hip-hop heads will love it. The project has only 5 songs and that may be its only drawback but those 5 tracks are well worth the 3.99 admission fee. I tell what, these 5 songs are a damn sight better than most artists' complete body of work. For now, the EP is on our parent site at www.daysofjoyent.com but the project will be going global soon. Here's a rundown of the tracks on the project. First up is the title track "Keisha House" and it is one the best on the EP. Followed by "Thought", "Full Metal Jacket", "Bless The Water" another favorite of mine. Lastly, a song called "Diesel" which is a direct insight into the man himself. I know once you hear this you will love and play it as much as I do.
Follow the links below for more info on Diesel. Also, Diesel does have a working relationship with Days of Joy Entertainment and Sengbe Ben Yosef. However, I stand by all of the statements and claims in this story. Thank you for your time and again welcome to 2017. We wish you all the best in the coming months and we hope that your year is a smashing success. So from me and the team here at Days Of Joy we say Happy New Year!!!
This month is special for those music lovers who follow the
Christian belief system because it is the month in which the savior Yeshua aka
Jesus Christ was born. In honor of that, we chose to highlight a genius of a
gospel rapper who goes by the rap name Mike Body. A friend of ours sent us an email back in September of this
year and told us to check this guy out and we did. After listening, the team
decided to do a story on Mike and his music. Mike Body reminded us of classic
rap acts like Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth or newer acts like Kendrick Lamar and
J. Cole but do not be fooled that statement because Mike has a strong presence
of his own . His style is very unique and the message he delivers is not so
preachy that it turns the listener off to what he's saying. I believe any hip hop music lover could
fine themselves getting into Mike Body even if you're not a follower of the Christian faith. Mike
is from Baltimore Maryland and you can hear how the city must have molded and shaped his
music and his subject matter.
We hooked up with Mike to learn more about his music. We
asked Mike a series of question about his life and his music. First, Mike says:
He has had a great love for music as far back as he could remember. He said he
would listen to his mom as she would play music and dance around the house.
Mike says his mom would play lots of artists but Michael Jackson, Guy and Anita
Baker stayed in heavy rotation when his mom played music. Mike also credits his
love of music to his dad as well. He remembers his dad having a large vinyl
collection of records mostly from the 60's and 70's. I think most of us old
heads can relate to that? Mike said he heard lots of music coming up but for
him the song "Some Guys Have All the Luck" by the Persuaders was one
of Mike's favorites. We asked Mike which artist was he directly influenced by
and he said artists like 2pac, jay Z, and Nas but more so 2pac because he could
relate to the pain and realism depicted in some of Pac's lyrics.
Mike said there are some good friends and producers that he
grew up with that inspired him to rap also. Mike says he couldn't forget about
these guys. Men like Charles aka (600 Rush) a friend he grew up with and Devon
aka (Mayday) a producer he has worked with. Mike says Mayday is the first real
producer he ever worked with and both him and 600 Rush inspired him to become a
better rapper. Mike has other members of his family who are into Hip Hop also.
Mike says he has two cousins one named Asia a rapper and the other goes by
NAE, a rapper/producer. Mike told us hopefully next year we would be hearing
from NAE's untitled project which Mike plans to executive produce for his
cousin. It's a good thing when an artist has good people around them and even
better when those people are family and friends.
Mike Body has been making music for about 10 years but he
says he never took it seriously until he got with a group called the Nocklist.
After the group disbanded, Mike decided to retire and focus more on his life as
a Christian. Mike's retirement from music wouldn't last long and after a year
he was back at it, but with a better perspective. Mike's producers M. Bennett
and Kevin A. made Mike see that he needed to take the recording of music more
seriously. Mike says while making his first solo album, M. Bennett's input and
attention to detail was a big reason for that album's success. Mike Body says
he has tried his hand at composing music but he prefers to stick to the
songwriting aspects of making music for now. Mike says some of his most
inspiring moment in his career came when he recorded the "Obituary"
project. Mike says this was some of his best memories as an artist because the
creation of the music was so organic at the time. He says he will never forget
the reaction to that album because it was unplanned but at the same time, it
gave birth to a new audience of listeners. He says I'm blessed to have that
under my belt today.
Mike Body has some great works out there right now and we have listed a few for you to check out. One track is called "Gospel on Sunday" featuring a dynamic singer "Jarell Johnson". The song is
an uplifting track that is full of hope and inspiration it was a close runner up for this
stories feature song. Another track of Mike's we enjoyed is a track called
"Selection Process" featuring singer "Devin".The
song is about the choices we make in life and in love relationships. Also it’s about
how we fight against the temptations we face trying build a better relationship
God while attempting to maintain our love life. As we reviewed Mike's many great works the
consensus began to form around this month's feature song. The track is entitled
"The Restoration". It is a clever run down of our weaknesses as men
and women. The song speaks on our fight as humans beings trying to live up to the
standers of the "Most High". "The Restoration" is about
facing your inner demons and being true to yourself and God. We wanted to know
Mike thoughts on the song and he had
this to say: The
Restoration was about the imperfections we all have either in word deed and as human beings. I was talking about a restoration from a doctrinal perspective
and a relationship perspective. When I say "I ain't perfect I can't
lie" is because I'm aware true cleansing comes when I admit my
imperfections to God. If we say we have no sin we make him a liar and the truth
is not in us.
Mike continues by saying: Now,
everything ain't for everybody but with God, you have to be real with yourself
and especially with him in order for that relationship to have any
authenticity. I know of people that have fallen away because they were
repeatedly scorned by the church because of some faults they may have had. Like, people having a baby out of
wedlock or for having previous troubles with the law or because of their financial and
education level. Sadly, I know of some people that are knowingly and
unknowingly being taught a false doctrine. When I wrote the song I put myself in
their shoes to hopefully shed some light on the issues and to let them know I can relate on some
level, also to say that I care. The church is intended to be a spiritual hospital, not
a courtroom, not a corporate business but instead it should be a loving and supportive family environment. Mike
says: The song is my contribution to the black family. We need more of that in
music and life. I agree with Mike we do need more music like this and more
people willing to make it.
We asked Mike what we could expect going forward: Mike says
right now he has been busy promoting the new EP "Signs of Maturity".
He is also planning to shoot a new video for his song "Call Me King" soon.
Also, Mike is putting out the remix version he wants to get a special feature
for that project. Mike say just stay Tuned! We asked Mike what message he was
trying to get across to the people and Mike said if I could get a message
across with my music it would be to tell people don't let the circumstances in
life define who you are, keep living. We really enjoyed Mike Body's music and
talking with a man who wants to do more than just make music he wants to serve
God and give the highest praise. We wish Mike all the best and we also
encourage you to put your support behind Mike because artist like him are
few and far apart these days. We could sure use a good word and some awesome
sounds nowadays. Mike Body has that and more check him out at the links
below. And as always we ask that you support the artist and
support good music because the world could use some good music right now.
Hello, friends and
welcome, back to another edition of Unique Indie Artist brought to by your
friends at Days of Joy Entertainment. It's been just over a year since our blog
started celebrating independent artist in the field of music. Thanks to you we
are still going because of your support.
This mouth's artist
comes to us out of Kansas City M.O. and now resides in Atlanta G.A... We came across him during our daily review of
some indie artist on that famous site that everyone uses. After a few hours of listening
to many artist that pretty much sound the same, we were about to give up when I
clicked play on the next artist video. The artist was a young man that uses the
handle "The Royal Chief". The artist was so impressive we felt it was
necessary to share his talents and artistry with you.
"The Royal
Chief" is the kind hip hop artist we need now days considering all the
trash out there now. Chief has bar after bar of hot lyrics for your enjoyment
and his wordsmithing is some of the best I have seen in a while. Also, it's
refreshing to see and hear an artist that puts a great deal of effort into his
work. The Royal Chief puts you in the mindset of an artist like Kendrick Lamar,
J Cole, or Big Krit. Chief, however, has created his own style of hip-hop
excellence. With the Chief's brand of hip-hop, you get the best of all worlds
and I am sure you'll love his music if you give him a try.
We got up with
"The Royal Chief" by way of email to set up the interview. He was delighted to share more about his
music with us and our readers. Chief
shared some of his personal stories as well as his journey into the world of
hip-hop music. Chief says he was always a big music head growing up and his mom
would play a lot of soul and oldies around the house but Chief says his dad is
the one who introduced him to hip-hop music. Chief says his dad's taste in
music was everything to him so he got a lot of his early experience with music
from his dad. Chief says he was always geeked up to listen with dad because dad
always played the uncensored versions of the songs.
Chief began writing hip-hop lyrics at the age of 13 and he
has been writing steadily since that time. Chief says his main musical influences came
from Tupac, Eminem, and Kanye West. I could believe that once I listened to
Chief spit on a few more tracks. Chief's style of hip-hop is not confined to
just one genre within hip-hop music he seems to be able to do it all from
"Trap" to "Classic" hip-hop and everything in between.
Unlike most rappers today Chief has that wow factor that makes him stand out
from the crowd of clowns representing hip-hop today. "The Royal
Chief" is the perfect name for this artist when you consider his skill
level and how commands the mic like hip-hop royalty.
The Royal Chief has a brand new project out called
"Dawn" and it has many great tracks on it. We have listed a few of
our favorites for you to check out.
First, we have a wonderful track entitled "Wings". The song is a beautiful piece of work that speaks on the journey of a young artist and his struggles to make it in the industry. Next, we go to a song that caught our ears as well. The track is a song called "Hanging Tree". The track's word play is just dope; this is straight fire and Chief went in on this track for sure. The song is strong and speaks to many real issues in life both personal and general. Everyone at the blog really got into the project but our overall favorite was the track "Shoot Me Down". This may have been the best for us because lyrically it was the most relevant to what's going on in America right now.
We asked Chief about making the song. Chief says when he
first sat down to write "Shoot Me Down" he felt held back by a lot of
things and a lot of people doubted him at the time. They told him he needed to
quit or try something different as a career. He felt that they were basically
shooting down his dreams and that's what inspired the first verse of the song.
Chief says the 2nd verse was more so inspired by the events going on around him
in the world. Chief says they say art is an imitation of life and with all the
police brutality and the injustices happening against minorities in America
right now, I just felt the need to speak on it. Chief says the song is about
him addressing the people who are trying to bring him down in his personal
life. It's about the people trying to stop him from seeing his full potential. He, also
says it's about those people who are trying to stop us as a people (Black People) from
reaching our full potential.
We asked Chief what he thought it took to write a song like
"Shoot Me Down". Chief said all it takes is the decision to speak
about something bigger than yourself. We want Chief to tell the people what his
music is all about. Chief said my music is about struggle, joy, growth, understanding,
and inspiring people to be everything they are meant to be. Chief goes on to
say I just love seeing greatness in people. I love to see people win and
overcome life's struggles.
We asked what he wanted fans to get from his music. Chief
said I like to make music that empowers people. Whether I'm just trying to
relate to them or showing them they aren't
alone or if I can get them through the struggle and just inspiring them
to want to do more for themselves. I just want my music to drive people to be
the best version of themselves that they can be". The Royal Chief is a very talented an
interesting young man and I hope you will give him and his music a chance

This month we honor young R&B singer songwriter from our
nation’s capital Washington DC. The artist Fùnsho (formerly known as Seph Ade)
has a very unique style of music that in keeping with today's music but he
takes his concepts to new levels of perfection this is artist has very stylish
and captivating music. I have been listening to Fùnsho for about six months and
I felt the need to make my readers aware of this hidden talent.
This young artist has amazing vocal range and music talent.
All though he has made waves on Youtube doing cover song make no mistake he is
an original artist. His published work is wonderful. His first project is
entitled Love Acoustically and it is truly beautiful. The album has that
classic feel and I know anyone that listens will fall in love with the sound.
The entire album is dope but one of my favorites is the track Sweet Lover.
Fùnsho's latest project is entitled S-H-E (Sound Has
Emotions) and just like the first album this one is imaginative, inspiring and
sexy. The mix of R&B and Hip-Hop on some of the tracks is some of the best
work I have heard from a young artist in a while. The track I want to highlight
is called Tonight; it is ready for prime time, This project has helped to move
this artist forward in his creative abilities and I'm sure it will catch on
with the listeners.
Okay I have talked enough and now I leave to allow time to
explore this one of a kind artist. I really believe in the talent of this
artist and I know if we support him the music will grow and who knows what
could happen. Now the official music video for the track "Tonight" I
hope you enjoy it and be on the lookout for Fùnsho he is going places
This mouths artist is our very own Sengbe Ben Yosef, singer
songwriter composer, and record
label owner. Since 2009 Sengbe Ben Yosef
aka Ridgley Makins has written and composed 7 full albums. People have been
calling for the artist to create real music that touches the hearts and
imagination of music fans. I believe Sengbe
has done just that on each of his previous six albums. Sengbe's latest work, album
seven also delivers music that is true to real music and musical creativity. If
you have never experienced the work of Sengbe I suggest you get acquainted with
this unique artist and his brilliant music.
We talked to Sengbe about his history in music and how he
got his started. Sengbe says that he has always loved music since he was a child.
Brother Ben also added, "Music has always been a part of my life and I can
remember performing as a young boy for my family at family gatherings". Sengbe
says he gets his musical talents from his Dad who was a DJ and a member of a
small funk and R&B group in his younger years. We asked Sengbe who taught him how to create
music and write songs. Sengbe says: no one really showed me how to make music.
“I learned most of what I know from watching musicians and listening to radio”.
Sengbe says if he had to give credit to any one individual
or group he would have to credit the local music scene and the native music
known as “GoGo”. For those of you who have never heard of GoGo let me take a
second to introduce you. GoGo is music local to natives of Washington DC it is
a mix of Funk R&B and Afro-Caribbean
music's.
He says the raw energy of the music made him want to create music for the
people. Sengbe also credits Hip Hop music and all of the wonderful people he
met while on his journey to discover his musical identity. Sengbe
says there are some people he wants to thank for helping him to gain
musical knowledge. He says he would like to thank cousins Daniel Marks and Marc
R Joy for helping him to grow both as a man and musically. He says he would
also like to thank Ezra Greer for the knowledge of formulating music into songs.
We ask Sengbe what he wanted people to get from his music.
Sengbe says what he wants is for people to just listen and share his feelings.
He says “If someone gets something out of my music and it helps them in a
positive way then I thankful for that but my intention is only to share my life
through the use of music”. We asked him
what’s next for him and He said he was going to take a break from creating his
own music and start helping other young artist to develop their music and
skills in the music industry. Sengbe wants to build the first black-owned
multi-media conglomerate. He wants to create place where black media is owned
and distributed by blacks.Sengbe
says it’s a shame so much of music is created by blacks but so little of the
industry is owned by the people producing it. He says this is what he wants to work on and he hopes like-minded
people come and help him realize this dream.
Sengbe Ben Yosef is a one of a kind artist his music needs
