Diesel

The Birth of a Legend

by
Sengbe Ben Yosef

Greetings good friend and welcome to 2017! By the grace of God, we made it through another year. 2016 was full of ups and down and some unexpected turnabouts. You alt to know by now that America has elected a new president whose name I will not mention because I am sure he will get plenty of press coverage in the mainstream media and on the Politics page of our blog. As we enter into 2017 we wanted to take the Music page of the blog and our "Unique Artist" series back to the street.  As you may know "Hip Hop" music started in the streets of NYC over 50 plus years ago and the origins of the music began in the streets and it was the hood version of the news. Well, this month we have an artist that is the modern day version of classic MC's like Spoony G and the rapper Too Short.

Our subject comes to us out of the mean streets of our nation's capital Washington D.C... This artist is a through back to a forgotten era in rap and hip hop music where street knowledge was the term we used to describe rappers like this young man. His flow is exceptional and as I say he is teaching the lessons of the streets without glorifying them and in doing so he is revitalizing a lost art form in hip hop music. All too often young rappers talk street but they aren't teaching a damn thing. Not is guy, he is repping street knowledge to the fullest. The artist goes by the name Diesel and you will clearly get the reason why after listen to his high-octane style of rap which will leave you feeling like you've been run over by a Mack truck. This is the rise of a legend in hip-hop and you don't want to miss this monumental moment in hip hop history.

Diesel was born Hershel Walker and he grew up in a notorious housing project in Washington D.C. commonly known as The University or as it was known by its residents "58 U". The East Capital Dwelling housing complex was one of the worst in N.E. Washington D.C. and it was there that Diesel learned the hard facts of life. You may be wondering why the people called the development a university. Diesel says that the old hustlers came up with the name and a while it just stuck. If you think about it; it makes perfect sense because when you want to learn you go to school and if you want a higher level of understanding you to a university to advance your knowledge. Diesel says living in the projects he learn a lot of lessons about life you couldn't learn anywhere else.

He says, some of the lessons were bad but for the most part he learned a lot about human behavior living in the hood. He also says his up bring is one of the leading influences in his music. Diesel said people might not think it but the ghetto offers you a lot when it comes to building your character. You learn about everything there is to know about life; you get to see people at their lowest points as well people in the worst places overcoming hell to make a good life. Diesel said he wouldn't change one thing about his upbringing or the facts of his earlier life in the projects. Diesel says "58 U' made me who I am today and I will never turn my back on that. So many good people and so many life lessons for a young man like me Diesel said.

Diesel has a new EP out entitled "Keisha House" and it is the main reason we wanted to talk to Diesel. We asked what is the meaning behind the title "Keisha House" and he said: The meaning is more like a novel or major motion picture. It's just my way of talking about some of the shit that happened over the years. It is a metaphor for the world and what happens when human beings get caught up.  Basically, it's my testimonial to life in the ghetto from the perspective of someone in a trap house environment. The EP is meant to serve as a notice to those who judge us city kids. They don't know what hell we have been through and I feel they got no right to judge us unless they spend some time in our shoes. Diesel says I just want to bring my music to the public and have them understand what it's like being young and black in America. This young man has a brilliant mind and his music is just as insightful as he is. Yes, his music is raw and gritty but it has lots of truth.

The EP is "Keisha House", the artist is Diesel and I strongly suggest you try it out. The beat production is just as unique as the rapper and I know the true hip-hop heads will love it. The project has only 5 songs and that may be its only drawback but those 5 tracks are well worth the 3.99 admission fee. I tell what, these 5 songs are a damn sight better than most artists' complete body of work. For now, the EP is on our parent site at www.daysofjoyent.com but the project will be going global soon. Here's a rundown of the tracks on the project. First up is the title track "Keisha House" and it is one the best on the EP. Followed by "Thought", "Full Metal Jacket", "Bless The Water" another favorite of mine. Lastly, a song called "Diesel" which is a direct insight into the man himself. I know once you hear this you will love and play it as much as I do.

Follow the links below for more info on Diesel. Also, Diesel does have a working relationship with Days of Joy Entertainment and Sengbe Ben Yosef. However, I stand by all of the statements and claims in this story. Thank you for your time and again welcome to 2017. We wish you all the best in the coming months and we hope that your year is a smashing success. So from me and the team here at Days Of Joy we say Happy New Year!!!
